Special Screening - Telling Amy's Story

Dress for Success Worldwide is devoting the month of October to raising a higher level of visibility and awareness towards domestic violence and in support of this, Dress for Success Vancouver will be hosting a special informational and educational event, in partnership with WAVAW – Women Against Violence Against Women, on October 15, 2011.

Join us for the premier of “Telling Amy’s Story” - the PBS documentary that chronicles the life of Amy Homan Magee, a victim of domestic violence.

"By laying bare one woman's story and the many opportunities to alter its outcome, Telling Amy's Story has the power to educate, heal, empower and -- most importantly -- save lives" Huffington Post - December 2010.

After the film, WAVAW experts will share valuable resources and information on the impact of domestic violence in Canada, and will be available to answer questions about this top of mind social issue.

Last Friday, September 30th, we had three fabulous volunteers from Pricewaterhouse Coopers helping us with everything from our organizing our file storage to sorting through the mounds of clothing.

Corporate Challenge Kicks Off!

Challenge representatives, staff and volunteers kicked-off the 2011 Dress Me for Success Corporate Challenge Tuesday night in style! Highlights included delicious treats, bubbly and a fall fashion presentation by Katherine Lazeruk.

A total of 12 Challengers will compete to raise awareness and funds for Dress for Success Vancouver through raffle ticket and button sales. Raffle tickets sell for $10 each – a worthwhile contribution for a chance to win one of 11 fantastic prizes. Buttons will be sold for $5 each; participants are encouraged to show their support by dressing up and proudly wearing their button on designated ‘dress up’ days within their organization.

The Challenge will conclude with a Wrap-Up Party at the Marriott Pinnacle Hotel Downtown on November 2nd. Tickets are now available via Challengers and/or through the Dress for Success Vancouver office for $40 each. Stay tuned for more information!

Best Buy Canada's corporate office recently held a clothing drive on our behalf, raising 509 lbs of donated items! This included 104 pairs of shoes and 55 purses.

In addition to collecting and delivering the donations, Best Buy sent a team to sort through the items at Dress for Success Vancouver's office/shop. Much appreciated, team!

Lip Gloss and Foundation and Bath Products - Oh My!

Over 100 cartons of makeup and bath products were recently donated to Dress for Success Vancouver by Smart Brands Inc., who have supported us for years with their fab TEN Beauty products.

Most of the products will go to our clients to help polish off their new looks in their interview clothing. Other items will be raffled off as door prizes at events. We're also stoked to be able to package makeup for teens to be used as Christmas gifts in the winter.

Our volunteers were super excited to unpack the goodies and our clients are overjoyed to take home these great bonus beauty items!
